DAMN YOU ALL!!
22 years ago, we had my opening for my exhibition, I AM YOUR PIÑATA in Hollywood. I used the piñata as a metaphor to represent the celebration and pain of life.
This particular painting “Damn You All” was about my sweet black cat Stubby, who I found his lifeless body on the street one morning a victim of a hit n run.

This painting was included in this exhibition and hundreds have inked this iconic image on their body.

SPOOK-TOBER continues!!!
The original title is painting “13,” but maybe I should change it to “They are eating our Cats.”
This was exhibited nearly 22 years ago today in an exhibition “I AM YOUR PINATA, and Other Paintings about Love & Sacrifice.”

Thank you everyone for all the birthday love for Bosko and me.
It has been an introspective time especially away from home and away from Bosko.
But hearing from everyone, being on the other side of the world, has been helpful.

P.s. This is a real slide from like my 7th birthday party.

POOL OF TEARS!

This painting’s title is “Pool of Tears” based on the famous Alice in Wonderland illustration of when Alice cries and she shrinks down and nearly drowns in her own tear drop!

Today, these are TEARS OF JOY, feeling grateful that my MEMENTO MOA exhibition will be up in the Taupo Museum till December 9th!

Come take a trip, be inspired for the art, see a real Moa skeleton, and stay for the natural thermal pools in beautiful TAUPO!

Today, I turn 64! I know it’s the one legitimat

Today, I turn 64!

I know it’s the one legitimate time you can play the Beatles song on your birthday but it doesn’t feel appropriate and nostalgic for me now.

The Chambers Brothers “Time has Come Today!” feels right, like an artist chisel, smashing the marble of mortality, as I continue to complete the legacy of my artistic life.

I thank my cat, Bosko, for cutting this video.
I miss him as I’m away in this quiet lake side town in the middle of New Zealand.

THIRD STREET SCHOOL’s 100th ANNIVERSARY!!!
Introducing our Exclusive, Limited Edition 100th Anniversary Print Artwork from distinguished Third Street alum and Panther Legend - Artist Gary Baseman!! We are beyond thrilled and honored that you created this special artwork for our Centennial Celebration!

Gary is a world-renowned artist known for his unique iconography and fantastical visual narratives bringing together the worlds of pop culture and fine art.

Gary’s fine art has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and all over the world including Brazil, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, and the UK!
Gary born & raised in Los Angeles, graduated from Third Street, went on to John Burroughs and Fairfax High (and was recently inducted into the Fairfax High School Hall of Fame!). He then graduated magna cum laude from UCLA in Communications and worked in editorial campaigns and with corporate clients including The New Yorker, TIME, Rolling Stone, Nike, Gatorade, Levi’s, Mercedes, and designed the visual identity for the best-selling board game Cranium, and created the ABC/ Disney animation series Teacher’s Pet that won several Emmy and BAFTA awards.

Gary is currently prepping for a fine art exhibit in New Zealand but has graciously agreed to come speak to our students in a few weeks! Aligned with his visit will be a Student Centennial Poster Challenge where students can design their own poster and be considered for prizes (one of which will be Gary’s special centennial print) and featured at school.

We will be producing 100 high-end limited qty prints at $100 each for our 100th Anniversary!!
