Honoring the Centennial of the 19th Amendment

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Passed by Congress on June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, this amendment guarantees women the right to vote.

This image by Gary Baseman symbolizes the struggle for woman’s suffrage, honoring the women who fought for the ratification of this amendment to the United States Constitution. While it took decades for people of color to gain the same right to vote, it was a step toward a better (but imperfect) democracy.

The fight for the right to vote sadly continues. This election year of 2020 is a particularly challenging one, given the pandemic and with the US Postal Service undermined with major operational changes happening with less than 100 days before Election Day.

Make sure our voices are heard. Vote!
