Beverly and Fairfax debut in The New York Times

This past spring Gary Baseman adopted two foster cats, Beverly and Fairfax. Still just kittens, they debuted big on the “Best Friends Forever!” cover for The New York Times for Kids (print edition Sunday, July 27, 2025) and feature article “How to be the Best Friend Ever” by Charley Locke and Catherine Pearson.

Written for youth, advice in the article about friendship applies to all ages:

Talk less, listen more.

When things go wrong, try again.

Focus on quality, not quantity.

Remember: friendships change.

The names Beverly and Fairfax pay homage to the major cross streets in Gary’s beloved neighborhood of the Fairfax District. One major landmark there is the former home of Television City where The Twilight ZoneThe Price is Right and American Idol were produced. The campus still exists, but like so many things, the stewards have changed.

We are so excited to have our new pals Beverly and Fairfax at Baseman Studio, and to see them develop their Mighty Paws!
