THE PURR ROOM, our immersive healing Art Installation first took place 2 years ago today.
My now late amazing talking animal companion, Blackie the Cat offered the gift of his healing Triple Purr to share his teachings to the world.
I’m so grateful I was able to collaborate with Blackie the Cat on this special project. I miss his real amazing Triple Purr.

The first two incarnations were at the Other Art Fair at the Barker Hangar, LA and Truman Brewery in London.
This installation was a response to the chaos and noise of the world and daily news. Before entering, attendees were asked to pause and think about who they love unconditionally, what a hug feels like, and to draw a favorite pet. After this orientation, a single person or small group entered to sit on or lie on a faux fur Cat Bed inside The Purr Room to listen and feel the “power of purr.”
Blackie the Cat and I were thankful to our dynamic creative team and all that experienced and attended.

Blackie the Cat as Catrin! 🖤💀

I’ve been working on 9 5x7 Dia de Los Muertos Blackie the Cat drawings. These are very emotional and special to me. I imagined Blackie as CATrin celebrating The Day of the Dead.
Blackie loved Dia de Los Muertos, and this past year, he had a few dances with La Calavera Catrina, but he always came back to me. But on August 22, 2020, his little physical body gave out and he became CATrin, and followed La Catrina over the bridge to the afterlife.

I seemed to have started a series of 5x7 inch Blackie the Cat Halloween drawings. Just like the Dia de Los Muertos Blackie drawings, these are very emotional and special to me. Blackie and I always loved Halloween. And, of course, I miss him every day.

They are all together in a special sketchbook. These drawings were very therapeutic. I’ve been enjoying making these drawings from life in a new way, capturing lines and details that represent our unique bond.

This was only 45 sec of a Perfect 5:30 min Boulevard Stroll.
During the beginnings of COVID, Blackie the Cat picked up the Art of STROLLING and made it his own.
I was obsessed by his passion and documented 100 hours of Blackie the Cat’s strolls.

I get mesmerized watching these videos. I hope to honor Blackie’s strolls in a large video installation one day. And since we are in the month of October, I’m finding ways to honor him as I prepare for Dia de Los Muertos.

WOLYNER FOREST. Hiding in the Wolyner Forest mean

WOLYNER FOREST.
Hiding in the Wolyner Forest meant surviving. This is such an important painting to me. My father lived in this forest for 3 1/2 years as a partisan fighting the Fascist Nazis during WWII. My family knows first hand what fascism, hate and authoritarianism can do and destroy. MYTHICAL HOMELAND, my exhibition from
seven years ago, represented my Dream Reality version of my parents’ journey, mixed with their life pursuing the American Dream here in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles.
