MAGIC HOUR!
Simpler times. Twilight.
I’m in the parking lot of Town & Country across from Farmer’s Market on 3rd & Fairfax.
That smile was genuine.
Maybe my sister and I were going to Sav-On Drugs to get me art supplies and a nickle ice cream cone. Or maybe we were going to Fisher’s Hamburgers!
I’m wearing a Rams sweatshirt when Roman Gabriel commanded the team. I liked football then, but my heart and soul was really with the Dodgers! The Fairfax District was special then. One block away, during this twilight hour, the Gilmore Drive-In’s projector was about to play some late 60’s hollywood film.

I originally created this image honoring my Blackie the Cat, seen here dancing with a Catrina Calavera, an iconic subject portrayed in the imagery of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

Growing up in Los Angeles, I find it one of the most beautiful and emotional celebrations!

Día de los Muertos is the happy remembrance and celebration of the lives of departed loved ones, by bringing families together to support their spiritual journey. Originating from Mexico, this holiday represents when the border between the spirit world and the real world dissolves so the entire family can reunited! During two days (November 1 for the spirits of the children and November 2 for All Souls Day), the souls of the dead awaken and return to the living world to celebrate with those they left behind.

WHO WANTS TO GO ON A BIKE RIDE?
My Grandfather owned the first BIKE SHOP in the town of BEREZNE that was once Poland and now Ukraine.
I put these two photos together 7 years ago when I returned to my parent’s original hometowns in 2014.
On the left is a photo of my father riding some where in burned out Eastern Europe around 1946 and me riding the first trip arriving in my parent’s towns in 2012.

ALWAYS TIME FOR WHACKING!
19 years ago, we had my opening for my exhibition, I AM YOUR PIÑATA in Hollywood. I used the piñata as a metaphor to represent the celebration and pain of life. Don’t be afraid to express yourself for the fear of being hit by the big stick of life. I need to continue to remind myself this while the “big stick” seems to have gotten bigger and harsher.

Back in 2002, it was an exciting time for me, where my art was converging in many fields, with my Disney animated series airing weekly on ABC, producing solo fine art exhibitions and designing my early versions of Urban Vinyl Toys in Japan and the States.
