17 years ago today!
BLACKIE THE CAT came into my life, March 28, 2006.
Never thought I would have to say, before there was BOSKO, there was BLACKIE.
I’m working on publishing Blackie the Cat’s story book, THE MIGHTY PAW, and hoping to tour my exhibition NINE LIVES, that celebrates Blackie the Cat’s Life & Teachings.

One of my 4x6 ft paintings from my recent MEMENTO MOA exhibition at the @sutergallery
This is an homage to my favorite 1938 animated short, Porky in Wackyland, where Porky Pig goes to Africa to search for the last dodo bird. This animated film continues to be a cinematic metaphor through out my life. Also, a crazy coincidence is that this film was directed by the great Bob Clamplett, who lived down my street, and I went to school with his daughter, Ruth. This brilliant film is a surreal classic, that feels like Salvador Dali meets the Three Stooges.
For this exhibition, I felt compelled to paint my Blackie the Cat character going off to Aotearoa New Zealand in search of the last Moa Bird.

Memento Moa is a new series of original art that I created for a museum exhibition in New Zealand that explores themes of migration, memory, and mortality.
I reimagine the extinct great Moa Bird as a visual metaphor to keep the spirit of our past loved ones alive. WINGS OF DESIRE & MOURNING GLORY are two important paintings from this new series.
